End of a era….

This weekend I watched the final story in the life of a very important American Family. I have grown up (of sorts) with the Kennedy Family. I remember watching JFK as a little girl with a daughter about my age. I dreamed what it would be like to grow up in the White House. I watched as that little girl said goodbye to her Daddy and wondered how she must feel. I was in the first grade when my teacher Mrs. Nash told us and Mr. Herring come over the loud speaker at Taylor to tell us the news that President Kennedy had been shot in Dallas. I remember like it was yesterday watching the funeral on TV with my mom and her best friend Yvonne. I guess I have always wondered what it must be like to grow up in that family. Such wonderful successes but MANY tragedies too. I had to watch, to me the final chapter in the original families life yesterday as they laid Senator Ted Kennedy to rest next to his two brothers in Arlington National cemetery. When we lived close to Washington I visited the cemetery and the grave of the Kennedys- how moving to see the eternal flame on the hill above Washington DC

No matter what they believed or what political party they represented they spent their lives and gave it for our country- that I want to say Thank you….

One thing this family lived by is this famous saying

“To much is given , much is required”.

I think they did a great job at doing just what their Mother Rose taught them. If we would all do the same what would our America be like? A better place to live, I’m sure.

My Desktop…

august I am one of these crazy people who changes their desktop every month and there to help me do this is a darling little website

http://www.shabbymissjenndesigns.com/

Each month they give you a free desktop design and all I do is add a cute, darling picture of yes my favorite little grandson. I have loved changing this each month and it gives me a handy little calendar besides! What a great deal – FREE! You need to have a digital scrapbook program on your laptop to add the pictures but I picked mine up at Office Depot for about 9.99 – so you too can have one heck of a cute desktop – no more pictures built in your friend!

Fluffing a empty nest….

Nothing makes your heart hurt like seeing one of your little birds fly away… Brenda and I have tried to keep ourselves busy with a little fluffing around her little nest. She has wanted to redo a few things and with Sarah and Joe moving it was time to keep busy and I was put to work keeping her BUSY! I am a little tired from it all!HEHE But I have found with all of my good byes in life the best way to get over it is start a creative project and keep your mind and hands busy.

We headed off to Big D to hang out in someone else's nest for a few days. It was good to see 2 of my favorite guys.DSC02128 We played, ate and read MANY books but nothing heals the heart like getting a hug and a wet kiss from a 11 month old….

We shopped and got lots of ideas for her new nest and went home and got busy with the fluffing! She painted a wall, redid her Mantel, decked out her many side tables and chose some new furniture and fabric to get in the coming months.

A new and improved Living area – I think she likes it much better now.

The one thing I have learned in motherhood – you spend a lifetime of watching your children grow up and walk away….whether it is a new grade in school, move to a new town, start a family of their own.

We wouldn’t have it any other way – but it does pull at the heart strings of your heart!
